Why Choose Roasted to Order vs Storebought Coffee?

Freshly Roasted Coffee Reigns Supreme

Here’s why:

Coffee enthusiasts know that one of the most important coffee attributes is freshness. Freshness is key to a great cup, and nothing beats roasted to order coffee.

1. Peak Flavor: Coffee beans reach their flavor peak 2-10 days after roasting. Roasted to order ensures you enjoy this optimal window. Also of note, roasted coffee, especially ground, starts to go stale soon after exposure to oxygen. That’s why we recommend buying whole bean coffee. Whole bean allows you to grind your own. That way, oxygen exposure is limited to your own terms.

Ground coffee looses its freshness and flavor much faster. Grinding your own also allows you to play with different grind styles to pull different notes from your favorite beans.

Coffee sitting on the shelf at your local grocery store was roasted… well… who knows when. All that time it has been sitting on shelves, distribution centers, trucks, you name it. By the time you get it home, it’s long since gone stale.

2. Supporting Small Businesses: Many roasted to order services are small, local operations, allowing you to support your community. Most, if not all, major chain coffee companies use mass produced beans that have been sitting around for weeks, months, even years. Is it cheaper? Yes. Do you get what you pay for while supporting local businesses? A resounding yes. At Wild Ridge Coffee, we pride ourselves on being both local, family owned, and veteran owned. By spending a little more, you support a great cause, while getting significantly better product.

3. Traceability: Smaller batches often mean better traceability of bean origin and farming practices. Once again, your major chain coffee fails at this. They get beans from wherever, however, and keep it for however long is needed to sell. In my opinion, this is a poor practice. For one, they have no control over actual product. You could be getting different beans from all different origins, all different roast levels, etc. tons of room for error where your coffee ends up being tasteless, burnt, brown water. Local, roasted to order coffee is easily traced. At Wild Ridge, we use the same 4 beans from the same 4 farms. Is this more expensive than mass produced, careless coffee? Yes. Much more. Especially on us roasters. But with that, you get piece of mind knowing your coffee is sustainably sourced from only ethical farms across the world. Those ethical farms share our passion for good coffee, the environment, and their fellow humans.

While convenient, mass-produced coffee often sits on shelves for months, losing flavor and aroma. Roasted to order coffee ensures you experience coffee as it's meant to be: fresh, flavorful, and full of character.

If you are interested in trying out some always fresh, always sustainable, locally owned coffee, drop and order! If you don’t like it, we will give you your money back. If you love it like we know you will, drop us a review! We are a growing local company and your support means the world!

Cheers,

Ethan
